We are a vibrant, friendly church originally founded and established as Southern City Church by Ross and Shirley Davies in the early 1990s as part of Millennium Ministries, New Zealand. 

In 2017, after many years of deliberation and prayer, we changed our name to better reflect our identity and purpose as a church. Ascension Church is our identity and purpose in Christ.
The word 'ascension' means the action of rising to an important position or a higher level. Our purpose as followers of Christ is to rise to a higher level in Him: a higher level of relationship with our Creator and King; a higher level of maturity and spiritual growth; a higher level of understanding and knowledge. As Paul writes in Philippians 3:14, "I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus."
​Ascension Church is about heeding this call: the call to come up; the call to grow; the call to ascend into Christ.
