Checkmates is a night for men to socialise (talk, laugh, watch dvds, enjoy coffee and supper) and to play chess.
Playing chess is a good way to learn critical thinking skills by using strategy and tactics. Chess is made up of 10% strategy and 90% tactics. This means your strategy or overarching plan is to win the game via a checkmate on the opponent's king, but you have to employ tactics to achieve that goal which makes up 90% of the game.
In the Christian life, we have an overarching plan to become more like Christ Jesus, that is 10% of our Christian walk, but 90% is made up of tactics to employ in order to achieve our strategy, plan or vision.
Checkmates is an opportunity to gather and learn from one another how to use tactics to achieve our strategy in both chess and life.
Checkmates will run every Wednesday at the Church. We'd love to see you there!
